AIDS Service Organizations
ASOS & PROVIDERS
ASO stands for *A*IDS *S*ervice *O*rganization. ASOs are community based service organizations that provide comprehensive care for people living with HIV/AIDS. Many ASOs also offer community-wide prevention education. The following are ASOs in Central Texas:
AIDS Services of Austin (ASA)
AIDS Services of Austin is the region’s oldest and largest community-based organization addressing the local AIDS crisis. ASA provides the following services/programs:
- Capital Area AIDS Legal Project (CAALP)
- Case management
- Helping Hands Food Pantry
- The Jack Sansing Dental Clinic
- Paul Kirby Emergency Financial Assistance Fund
- Prevention
- The Q Project
- Women Rising Project

David Powell Clinic
The David Powell health center is the largest provider of HIV medical services in the Austin area. The clinic provides HIV-specific health services, including:
- Treatment of HIV
- General medical treatment
- Medical case management
- Women’s services
- Patient assistance programs

Community AIDS Resources and Education (C.A.R.E.)
The C.A.R.E. Program, provided by MHMR Integral Care, offers case management, mental health and outpatient substance use treatment to individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Other services include:
- Access to housing assistance (HOPWA)
- Community outreach
- HIV counseling
- Testing for HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis C
- Psychiatric care
- Financial assistance for psychiatric medications
- Individual and group counseling
- Assistance in accessing residential addiction treatment services
- Acupuncture-detoxification and yoga groups
- The Journey outpatient substance use treatment program

The Wright House Wellness Center
The Wright House Wellness Center is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help people living with HIV and other chronic illnesses make healthier life-style choices, employ holistic health therapies to delay illness, and contribute back to the community. The services/programs they provide include:
- Outreach
- Nutrition
- Many Men, Many Voices (MMMV)
- Real AIDS Prevention Project (RAPP)
- Self Information Situation Trouble Assertive Suggest (SISTAS)
- Right At Home
- Health therapies, including acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, yoga, meditation, spirituality

Waterloo Counseling Center
The Waterloo Counseling Center (WCC), a privately owned nonprofit organization serving Austin since 1983, provides affordable mental health counseling services in an accepting environment with an expertise in gender and sexual diversity. The services Waterloo provides are:
- Individual counseling
- Group counseling
- Couple counseling
- Family counseling
- HIV support counseling
- Transsexual/transgender support therapy
- Coming out issues centered therapy
- Abuse/trauma issues therapy

The Care Communities, a non-profit organization, offers non-medical assistance to people living with illnesses such as HIV/AIDS and cancer. They provide many kinds of practical and compassionate support through volunteer Care Teams.
